The Canadian Snowbirds are here in record numbers thid year, and they are looking to buy real estate. This year the Ontario license plates in our area outrank any of our other Northern visitors, like Michigan, Illinois and Indiana. And why not? Today's conversion rate shows their dollar at 1.0269 to our dollar, according to Moneycorp, the commercial foreign exchange broker.
Florida Realtors announced this morning that 1 in 5 Canadians are interested in buying US property, according to a survey done by BMO Bank of Montreal. The strong Canadian dollar and lower home prices are sited as the main reasons for their interest. Home prices are reported to have fallen 30% overall in the US, but Florida, being one of Canadian Snowbird destinations have dropped even more. The Tampa Bay area is reported to have dropped 44%, making a home purchase a great investment for smart Canadian Snowbirds.
This year's mild winter has made the trip to Florida even more appealing than the blustery North these long, cold months. We have had an unusually mild and pleasant winter season and the beaches are filled with our Northern visitors. It's a great way for a Florida Realtor to do business.
