Winter, the Incredibly Inspiring Dolphin's story will be a major Motion Picture opening on September 23rd. Go to www.seewinter.com to see the trailer of the movie. It is an incredible story, and the movie was made by the same people as Free Willy and is based on the true story.
On June 30th, the Pinellas International Council of the Pinellas Realtor Organization was invited to join the British-American Council of Tampa Bay and the French American Business Council of West Florida, Inc. at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium for "An Evening with the Dolphins".
My friend, Pam Wilhelm and I had never been to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, and I had never heard of Winter, and we were delighted and impressed to have the opportunity to see the famous Winter and hear the story of her incredible spirit and miraculous rehabilitation. She was found in 2005 with a trap wrapped around her tail and was not expected to live. She lost her tail as a result of the incident, and a prosthetic tail was created so that she may live a normal life.
It appears that her recovery has inspired many visitors who have similar challenges to overcome due to the loss of limbs. Winter's spirit has given courage to many former soldiers and others who have struggled with psychological and physical pain, and major medical breakthroughs have been achieved in the effort to find a prosthetic tail for Winter.
I encourage everyone to see A DOLPHIN'S TALE this September and see for yourself how the will to live can overcome unbelievable odds. The volunteers at Clearwater Marine Aquarium are so dedicated, and love what they do and love the animals at the aquarium. It was quite a memorable evening and I encourage anyone visiting Central Florida to take a day to visit Clearwater Florida and see the miracle that is Winter.
What was even more amazing is that 5 years after Winter was found in New Smyrna, Florida, the same person who found Winter discovered a 2 month old bottlenosed Dolphin attempting to nurse from her dead mother. She was taken to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium to be raised, and her name is Hope. We got the opportunity to see her in her tank, a healthy, happy 8 month old, playing with the diver who was attempting to clean her tank, and I was able to capture her curiosity and playfulness nature. What a great evening of Networking and fun.
Hmmm....do I detect a sequel to A Dolphin's Tale?
P.S. As a result of this blog being posted, I was made aware of a horrific event taking place in Japan. Please go to http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/724/210/624/ and help save the dolphins and porpoises! Thanks Jennifer for bringing this to my attention!
